Halesowen v West Bromwich Dartmouth
06/06/2010 - Nick Archer
Following a protest by West Bromwich Dartmouth, the result of their match against Halesowen, in the 1st Round of the (Twenty 20) Challenge Cup, is to be reviewed. The result of the match was reported as a one wicket win to Halesowen but Dartmouth officials claim that both scorebooks confirm that the scores finished level and Dartmouth should go through to the 2nd Round because they lost less wickets (seven compared to the nine lost by Halesowen). The result was reported as follows:- Halesowen 162 for nine, off 20 overs, defeated West.Bromwich Dartmouth 161 for seven, off 20 overs, by one wicket. The Umpires have reported that the scoreboard showed that Halesowen required two runs from the last ball of the match to secure victory, which they duly scored and the players from both sides and the Umpires left the field believing that Halesowen had won the game by one wicket. Closer scrutiny of the scorebook, after the result had been declared, confirmed that the scores were level and it appears that there may have been a discrepancy with the scorebox which showed the total as 159 for nine, before the last ball was bowled, whilst, also, indicating that two runs were required for victory. It, now, appears that two runs were required to level the scores and the Cricket Sub-Committee has been requested to adjudicate.
