 Go Back
So sad to hear of the passing of Keith Wilkinson. I have lost count of the number of times I have told people that he was the best captain, by a country mile, I ever played under. He was an absolute genius on the field, he seemed to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of how every batter was going to play. His field placings reflected that knowhow.

My favourite memory of Wilkie is when he brought me on to bowl my off-cutters for Kidderminster. I used to bowl to a strict 6-3 legside field, the leg fielders all placed on the exact square of turf where the skipper wanted them. He said to me before I bowled a ball, “The offside fielders are there just to back up the throws from the leg fielders. If the batter hits you directly to an offside fielder, I will take you off.”

We were the same age as each other, but I was in awe of him as a cricketer. I bet he has already placed the field in Heaven.

RIP Wilkie.
