Hasan Ahmed’s brilliant unbeaten 85 set Old Hill on their way to a memorable 69-run Graham Williamson T20 Challenge Cup final win over Knowle & Dorridge at sun-soaked Stourbridge.
As a result Bilal Hassan’s side go on to represent the BDPCL on August 3rd when they host three other ECB Premier League T20 winners in the area finals of the national competition.
On the back of Ahmed’s fine effort, Old Hill posted a challenging 196-3 to which K&D responded with 127 all out.
Ahmed’s scintillating 53-ball knock included 12 boundaries and with opening partner Waqas Ahmed (34) and Saad Naseem (37) offering strong support the Haden Hill club set their Division One title-chasing rivals a challenging target.
Veteran slow left-armer Nick James (1-22) was the pick of a seven-strong K&D attack and George Maddy then fired the Warwickshire club’s chase out of the blocks by lashing seven fours and a six in a 14-ball 39.
But following the opener’s dismissal wickets fell at regular intervals against Old Hill spinners Ali Latif (2-35) and Naseem, who completed a player-of-the-day performance by claiming 4-14 from four superb overs.
Semi-finals
Knowle & Dorridge v Harborne
A fine bowling and fielding effort enabled Knowle & Dorridge to claim a eight-wicket win over defending champions Harborne in the first semi-final of the 2025 Graham Williamson T20 Challenge Cup.
Oxfordshire paceman Tom Davis (2-20) and the youthful Freddie Fowler (2-18) led the way for Ollie Currill's team for whom Nick James' slow left-arm also returned a characteristically thrifty 1-15 from four impeccable overs.
Despite Tom Arnold (20no) and Dan Wright (16no) taking the two-time BDPCL T20 champions to 116-7 from their 20 overs K&D went on to cruise to victory in the 16th over.
Alex Phillips led the way with a 34-ball 43 from the top of the order and with George Maddy (43no) playing the anchor role, George Baines' brisk unbeaten 21 ended Harborne's winning run in the competition at the 13th time of asking.
Barnards Green v Old Hill
In the other semi-final Old Hill overturned the form book to see off Division One Barnards Green by seven wickets.
George Rhodes got Barnards away to a flying start by making 47 from 33 balls with seven fours and a six.
But after his dismissal in the 12th over with the board showing 97-3 Old Hill's spinners imposed a straightjacket to the closing stages of the innings.
Waqas Ahmed (2-20) and Ali Latif (1-27) both bowled tidy spells but it was the contribution of Pakistani pro Saad Nassem (3-29) that was especially eye-catching.
As a result the Malvern-based outfit closed on 142-8 and when Old Hill’s Hassan Ahmed opened their response by smashing four sixes in a 17-ball 39 the Division Two club held the upper hand.
Saad then took over with the bat to finish the job by making an unbeaten 49 from 31 balls with four sixes. He added 84 from 53 balls with fourth-wicket partner Suraj Chauhan (31no) as Old Hill crossed the finishing line in the 17th over.
