Round-up for Monday May 27th

Round one’s re-arranged white ball fixtures met with marginally better weather than that in mid-April which saw the season put back a fortnight – but as often seems the case on British Bank Holiday Mondays rain still intervened in plenty of the day’s action.
Division One
Four wickets from Ben Robinson set Himley on their way to a notable three-wicket win at Smethwick.
In a contest reduced to 40 overs per side, Robinson (4-24) combined with Hasitha De Silva and James Lunn who grabbed two wickets apiece to dismiss their hosts for 151.
Smethwick’s Indian pro Deepak Khatri continued his impressive start to Birmingham League life with a half-century but the 2022 champions otherwise made little impact with the bat and Himley duly eased home with four balls in hand on the back of James Clark’s 52.
The eagerly-awaited meeting between Knowle & Dorridge and Barnt Green was abandoned at the match’s midpoint. By then the Worcestershire-based visitors had recovered from 86 for five to a competitive 207 all out thanks to Dan Meredith’s 59.
Hamza Shaikh picked up three cheap wickets at the death but it was the experienced home seam attack led by Ollie Currill and David Ball that did the damage early on.
With neither of the top two picking up many points, Halesowen took full advantage through an emphatic 46-run DLS home win over Barnards Green.
Chris Whittock was the shining star for Wes Griffiths’ team making a sparkling 118-ball 122 including four sixes. With Ed Bragg also making 47 the stage was set for a late James Rudge onslaught which saw six of the 18 deliveries he faced deposited over the ropes as Halesowen closed on 265-5.
Chasing a revised target of 234 from 37 overs Barnards Green slipped to 61 for four before Phil Harris weighed in with a 61-ball 83 in their 187 all out. Bragg and Rudge completed a good day by sharing five wickets for the hosts.
Half-centuries from young opener Levi Gekis (50) and all-rounder Ben Blakemore (65) steered Kenilworth Wardens to a 14-run win at West Bromwich Dartmouth under DLS.
After Wardens posted 233, a late partnership between Shahzeb Raza (37no) and Cameron Jones (37) threatened to get the hosts to their revised 32-over target of 177 but three wickets from Freddie Fowler ensured Wardens held their nerve.
Moseley’s visit to Ombersley was the third abandoned contest of the day and frustratingly for the to-date winless defending league champions the rain arrived when their openers were making good progress towards a revised 44-over target of 200.
With Abraash Khan unbeaten on 58, Usman Awan’s team were 86 without loss from 17 overs at the time. Their hosts earlier posted 197 all out from 45 overs on the back of Nick Hammond’s even-time 70.
Berkswell’s outfield has still not recovered enough for play to be possible at Meeting House Lane where Wolverhampton were the scheduled visitors.
Division Two
Matt James blasted seven sixes in a remarkable 16-ball 48 that got Harborne over the line for a three-wicket win in a high-scoring encounter with visitors Coventry & North Warwickshire.
In partnership with Jimmy Clifford (70) the former Solihull captain added 80 in just 5.5 overs to take Harborne within touching distance of their DLS-revised 40-over target of 275.
With the prolific Swapnil Gugale and Kai Smith both dismissed in the 30s Coventry had seemed on their way to success after earlier closing with an impressive 305 for nine of which opener Will Iles made 89 and Jay Bista 95.
Leamington left Old Hill with a heart-stopping five-run win under DLS after all-rounder Jacob Sergeant became an unlikely bowling hero.
The medium-pacer took 6-13 from seven overs as Old Hill’s quest for 172 from 32 overs collapsed from 141 for one to 156 for nine.
Waqas Ahmed made 71 from the top of the home order and he had earlier done an equally good job with the ball while sharing six Spa wickets with Aamir Manzoor.
Kabir Sodhi top-scored with 53 for Leamington who made 179 for eight from their 35 over allocation.
Dorridge completed a Bank Holiday hat-trick for Division Two’s Warwickshire clubs when they completed a 38-run win at Worfield under DLS.
The home side’s Shahrukh Khan returned 4-30 but with Daniyal Khan making 53 the visitors reached 185 all out in 47 overs.
Chasing 174 in 43 overs, only Tom Pickerill (47) made much headway for Worfield who were eventually bowled out for 135.
The second tier’s three remaining games all escaped weather interruptions with Tamworth, Shrewsbury and Wellington finishing victorious.
Tamworth claimed a five-wicket home win over Kidderminster for whom wicket-keeper Ben Griffin made 79.
The visitors finished with 187 all out against a home attack in which Suraj Chauhan (4-25) stood out before opener James Tomsor made 83 for Tamworth who cruised to the finish line in the 37th over.
Shrewsbury march on at the top of the table following a comfortable 102-run home win over county rivals Shifnal.
Peter Clark top-scored with 86 for the Shrews and with all the remainder of their top six making useful contributions, late acceleration from Llyr Thomas (44) and Lewis Evans (46no) saw the hosts past the 300 mark.
Evans and Clark then carried this momentum into the second innings by grabbing three wickets apiece as Shifnal were bowled out for 207.
Peter Scott’s unbeaten 80 which contained five sixes enabled Bridgnorth to reach 184 for eight against Wellington.
Dan Vaughan responded with 61 for the visitors who completed a four-wicket win with nearly seven overs remaining.
