 Go Back

Division One

Harborne was the place to be for runs and drama as visitors Ombersley snatched victory with two balls to spare after chasing down the Birmingham side’s huge total of 342/9.

Put into bat, Harborne quickly lost opener Eddie Miller but Jamie Harris and Ben Langdell put on 153 for the next wicket. Harris was next to go having scored 94 off 89 balls with Langdell reaching 111 from his 148 deliveries. Tejas Wagle added 48 off 27 balls while George Panayi was the pick of the bowlers with 3-78.

The visitors also lost early wickets but half-centuries from Vriitya Aravind (77), Tom Hinley (71) and skipper Luke Powell (66) boosted their innings in spite of Andrew Sutton taking 5-95.

It all went down to the final over with Ombersley needing 13 to win and they did it in style with Alex Parker guiding his side home with back-to-back fours.

Smethwick maintained their slender lead at the top of the table thanks to their six-wicket win at Himley. The hosts batted first and other than Navindu Vithanage who scored 43 not out, the batsmen struggled against the Smethwick bowlers as they were restricted to 144/8 from their 55 overs. Ankesh Dansuclal took 2-16 and Yasir Ali took 1-28 from 17 tidy overs.

In reply, opener Viken Kedariya carried his bat on his way to 84 off 87 balls to steer his side to 147/4.

Knowle & Dorridge remain their nearest challengers following their seven-wicket defeat of Barnards Green. Neil Pinner’s 4-20 and Oliver Currill’s impressive 1-14 off 12 overs had Barnards Green all out for 210 with George Rhodes (54) and Francis Moore (50) the key runmakers.

K&D opener Alex Phillips went for a duck but Hamza Shaikh (96) and Pinner (74no) staged a 132-run third-wicket partnership to ease their side to 212/3 in the 31st over.

Moseley edged a little further away from the drop zone following their eight-wicket win at basement boys Berkswell. The hosts were dismissed for 204 with captain Ali Awan scooping up three wickets. The visitors then impressed with the bat and Abdullah Awan (78no) and Asim Shoaib (61) were key in reaching 208 for the loss of just two wickets.

Shrewsbury beat Wolverhampton by three wickets helped by opener Peter Clark’s 97 and a useful 65 from Will Parton, both falling to Joe Stanley (4-66). The visitors posted 226/8 but the Shropshire lads replied with 228/7 in 42 overs.

The only drawn game was at Halesowen who managed just 144/8 in answer to Barnt Green’s 233/8. The pick of the bowlers was Barnt Green’s Harpreet Singh Brar who finished with 4-26.

Division Two

Excellent bowling from Coventry & North Warwickshire’s Sameer Vohra had title-chasing Dorridge in all sorts of trouble at Binley Road with the visitors reeling on 68/8.

He claimed 4-34 from 13 overs before the unlikely partnership of Ashish Chakrapani (66) and Imaad Mahmood (55) put on 117 for the ninth wicket to take Joe Dodd’s side to a more respectable 208 all out.

The hosts also struggled early doors with Adnaan Riaz claiming 5-42 and strike partner Chris Rushworth also claiming two of the top order. Cov rallied a little in the middle of their innings courtesy of Akshaykumar Patel’s 62 and skipper Vikram Sodhi’s 48 but they still fell short, being bowled out for 189.

Kenilworth Wardens still lead the way following their maximum points win at home to Shifnal. Ben Blakemore’s unbeaten 59 helped Wardens to 227 all out with Tommy Rex then taking 4-48 to send their visitors packing for 204.

Kidderminster were the biggest winners of the day, seeing off visitors Old Hill by 122 runs. Half-centuries from Harry Sockett (50) and Ben Gibbon (70) helped the Chester Road side post 280/7 from their overs with Bilal Hassan the star bowler with his 4-57.

Old Hill’s reply started badly as Liam Watson rattled through the top order on his way to 3-64. Gibbon then took up the mantle with 3-51 as the visitors were dismissed for 158, Ali Latif top scoring with 57 not out.

Leamington were convincing 114-run winners at home to Handsworth, lifting them into the top half of the table while keeping their opponents rooted to the basement.

Batting first, Leamington reached 270/9 with Harrison Smith (80) and Oscar Briggs (70) leading the way while Rashawn Worrell retired on 51. There were four wickets for Zakariah Abbas. Handsworth were out for 156 as they were undone by the bowling of Shailan Srikanthan (4-46).

Ismail Mohammed’s 100 off 104 balls was the highlight for West Bromwich Dartmouth as they beat Tamworth by five wickets. Opener Bruce Thomason hit 73 to help the Warwickshire side to 278/5 as they overhauled the home side’s 275/6 when Jacob Flower (110) and Riley Ward (95) impressed with the bat.
