 Go Back

Division One

Wolverhampton departed Division One in the most frustrating possible fashion when the weather prevented any play in either their home game with Halesowen or relegation rivals' Himley's visit to Barnards Green.

As a result Himley's fourth win of the season - last week's round 21 success over high-flying Shrewsbury - became the critical moment in deciding who joined Berkswell in Division Two next year.

Three years after most recently leaving the second tier, Wolverhampton finished this term with one fewer win than their rivals. And in all-rounder Ollie Walker Himley also possessed an influential figure whose outstanding campaign delivered 716 runs and 27 wickets.

However, the clear front-runner as the BDPCL's MVP is the league champions' Indian import Deepak Khatri who finished 2025 just short of a memorable double through a closing tally of 951 runs and 49 wickets.

With clubmates Viken Kedaria (807 runs) and Bilal Shafayat (616 runs) not far behind, the foundations of Smethwick's third title in four seasons are clear.

The only round 22 play possible in Division One was at the champions' Broomfield home where Harborne reached 34-0 in the fourth over before the rain returned. This meant the visitors' first venture into the top flight in two decades delivered a solid mid-table finish, while their acquisition of long-time Barnt Green seamer Andy Sutton was rewarded by his final tally of 48 wickets.

Halesowen paceman Ed Bragg (43 wickets) was the league's third highest wicket-taker as his club finished as the nearest challengers to Rawait Khan's champions for a second consecutive season.

The Black Country outfit finished two points ahead of ECB National Club Championship semi-finalists Knowle & Dorridge for whom experienced pair Neil Pinner (740 runs) and Nick James (32 wickets) led the way.

Newly-promoted Shrewsbury will also look back with huge satisfaction on a season in which they finished only 25 points adrift of Smethwick in fourth place. The prolific George Hargrave's tally of 929 runs left him behind only Khatri while Dustin Melton (31 wickets) impressed with the ball.

The closed-season move of Worcestershire's Rehaan Edavalath from Wolverhampton back to Barnards Green proved a significant one for both clubs. He finished with 817 runs at a season-leading average of nearly 59 and with Chris Steele (41 wickets) also making the top five of the bowling chart the Malvern-based outfit finished just outside the top half.

Fifth-placed Ombersley's Luke Powell who claimed 39 dismissals, finished the campaign as the leading wicket-keeper in both divisions.

Division Two

Kenilworth Wardens' skipper Tommy Rex was presented with the Division Two winners trophy by league president Malcolm Whitehall (pictured) after he took the only wicket to fall in the short spell of play possible during his club's visit to already-relegated Handsworth.

Rex, who finished with 39 wickets, was an influential figure with the ball for Wardens while Harry Johnson and Oliver Dandy both topped 550 league runs. As a result the Glasshouse Park club claimed the second tier title for the first time since 2013 a year on from their unexpected relegation.

Dorridge finished as runners-up to Wardens in 2013, and after their promotion was confirmed last week they were again unable to force their way past their Warwickshire rivals at the head of affairs despite their round 22 home game with Worfield surviving longer than most.

The visitors' Rishin Upamal took advantage of his team receiving their full 50-over allocation to make 113 from 129 balls and in the process finish as Division Two's leading run-scorer with 943.

His sixth-wicket partner Shahrukh Khan smashed five sixes in an unbeaten 82-ball 107 and with their alliance being worth 197 the Shropshire-based visitors posted 300-6 to which Dorridge replied with 38-2 from 6.5 overs when the rain returned.

Daniyal Khan finished the season with 818 runs for Joe Dodd's promoted team while Adnaan Riaz and Imaad Mahmood shared 58 wickets.

Division Two's two leading wicket-takers went head-to-head at Tamworth where Stourbridge seamer Dan Wale took his closing tally to 46 against a home side for whom leg-spinner Jason Jakeman (41 wickets) had made an unbeaten 34 out of 121-4 when play ended after 30 overs.

With Riley Ward also contributing 726 runs, fifth-placed Tamworth have enjoyed another strong campaign and look likely to challenge for promotion next term while seventh-placed Stourbridge can be very satisfied with their first season back in Premier League cricket.

Fourth-placed West Bromwich Dartmouth, for whom Ismail Mohammed finished the season with 837 runs, and Shifnal whose disappointing season ended with a ninth-place finish were unable to take the field in Telford.

Leamington skipper Jon Wigley had plenty of pre-season confidence and this proved well justified as his club bounced back from a difficult 2024 to claim 11 wins on their way to finishing third.

Spa were the only BDPCL winners on the final day of the season after West Indian import Rashawn Worrall (89) and 63 from James Hawkins steered them to 271-8 from 46 overs and a comfortable 72-run home win over Kidderminster.

Dan Lategan, whose seasonal tally of 772 runs played a big part in his Worcestershire contract award, responded with 52 from just 22 balls for the visitors while Ben Griffin made 58 before they were bowled out for 196.

Old Hill backed up their brilliant T20 campaign with a top-half league finish. Bilal Hasan claimed 35 wickets but it was the batting contributions of Pakistani pro Saad Naseem (881 runs) and Hasan Ahmed (802 runs) that grabbed the headlines.

The Haden Hill outfit reached 119-6 from 22 overs before rain ended their round 22 clash with already-relegated Coventry for whom veteran slow left-armer Kuldeep Diwan finished with 38 wickets.

Recent Warwickshire League champions Coventry and Handsworth have both found life difficult in Division Two this term, but whereas the Binley Road club have struggled for runs, in former West Indian first-class cricketers Montcin Hodge (746 runs) and Rohel 'JP' Peters (695 runs) Handsworth have two of the division's top ten run-makers.

They will be replaced by two of Warwickshire's Attock, South Staffordshire's Milford Hall, Worcestershire's Stourport and Shropshire's Wellington following the play-offs which take place over the next fortnight.
