Division One
Top two Halesowen and Knowle & Dorridge locked horns at Station Road but the only winner was the weather with the match being abandoned midway through the first innings.
It was hosts K&D who were put into bat and they were on 130/5 from 40 overs when the rain set in. The in-form Neil Pinner led the way with 44 from 60 balls and he was given useful support from opener Alex Phillips (37) and Nick James (24no).
Of the bowlers, Ed Bragg took 2-21 from an excellent 12-over spell and there were also wickets for Alexei Kervezee, Masihullah Qazkhill and James Rudge.
It was a similar situation elsewhere in the league with three other Division One games falling to the weather including Wolverhampton’s trip to Smethwick which saw just ten balls bowled. That game did produce a wicket though with the visitors losing opener Tom Fell to Yasir Ali without a run being scored.
Barnt Green made 61/8 at home to Himley and were probably grateful that the rain intervened. Hasitha De Silva took 4-30 from 14 overs with Ollie Walker snaffling 2-15 from ten and Jamie Turner 2-14 from five as the visitors made the most of the fading conditions. Just two batters reached double figures with Jacques Banton leading the way with 20 and Herefordshire’s Roshan Venkataraman adding 14.
Moseley’s match at home to Shrewsbury was also abandoned but not until the visitors had been dismissed for 116 with Eesa Nadeem the pick of the wicket-takers with 4-25. Opening pair Hishaam Khan (2-41) and Yadvinder Singh (2-13) also had success with the other wickets falling to Che Simmons and Rob Yates. Seb Scott top scored for Shrewsbury with 28 before becoming one of Nadeem’s victims.
In reply, Moseley lost their first two wickets without scoring but took their total to 36/2 at the close thanks mostly to Yates’ unbeaten 26.
The most thrilling match of the afternoon was at Harborne where Barnards Green had to settle for a winning draw.
Chris Steele’s four-wicket haul was instrumental in having the home side all back in the pavilion for 124, Ben Langdell’s 41 vital for his side. The Worcestershire side were set a total of 125 from 29 overs but were on 124/1 when the game ended. Skipper Ryan Tongue top scored with 54 off 46 balls and Reehan Edavalath was still there at the end on 46 not out.
Ombersley hit an impressive 260/8 in their match with Berkswell but had to settle for a winning draw. Joel Cox scored 106 not out to add to opener Oliver Cox’s run-a-ball 58 with Gareth Andrew chipping in with 48. Will Rogers took three wickets.
In reply, there was a half-century from Sheridon Gumbs (61) and a quick-fire 42 off 23 balls from Amrit Basra as the visitors reached 167/7.
Division Two
The situation in Division Two mirrored that in the top flight with the leading pair going head-to-head in a game that was ultimately abandoned.
Tamworth hosted Dorridge in this top-of-the-table clash and it was the visitors who were put into bat, a decision that looked to have worked as they slumped to 56/6. Daniyal Khan held things together for the Warwickshire side, working his way to 109 off 121 deliveries while others came and went with Adnaan Riaz (24) the only other batter to reach double figures.
Of Tamworth’s bowlers, James Wilkinson stole the show with 5-44 with Jason Jakeman (2-32) and Riley Ward (1-13) also among the wickets. The hosts then reached 54/1 when play was abandoned.
Black Country neighbours Stourbridge and Old Hill were able to celebrate wins with the former seeing off Warwickshire League champions Handsworth by six wickets after the Birmingham-based side were skittled for 71.
Nick Behrendt did the damage with a dazzling 7-15 from 7.1 overs, the three other wickets falling to Dan Wale. There was early success for the Handsworth bowlers but Bilal Hussain’s 33 helped see Stourbridge over the line.
Old Hill were six-wicket winners at home to Leamington who were dismissed for 95 with the wickets being shared around before Bilal Hassan (4-7) mopped up the tail. Rashawn Worrell (24) was the leading run-maker.
The home side struggled early on as they chased down their target, slumping to 45/4, but skipper Hassan (27no) and Suraj Chauhan (29) took them to their total.
Worfield held on for a losing draw at Shifnal, finishing on 137/6 at the end of their overs in reply to their Shropshire rivals' 212. Jack Edwards (47), Sam Scrimgeour (41) and Cameron Jones (35) led the way for Shifnal while Matt Rees took 6-50.
Worfield lost opener Joe Wright early on but a 66-run partnership between Ross Aucott (31) and Aman Hussain (28) kept them in the chase before they ran out of overs.
Coventry & North Warwickshire made 100/9 at home to Kenilworth Wardens before their match was abandoned, Tommy Rex the headline act with his 4-31 while Alex Wilkinson and Ben Blakemore each took two wickets.
Kidderminster’s match at West Bromwich Dartmouth was also abandoned after the visitors scored 213/5 and their hosts 31 without loss. For Kidderminster there were half centuries for Dan Lategan (65) and Nathan Jukes (61no) with Ben Gibbon hitting a rapid 30 off 16 balls.
